Chickens and cars?
Up North from Upshop, there is a veggie garden that was given an upcycling makeover. We found a novel way to create planter boxes using ex-Volvo bins – very sturdy and versatile with steel hinged sides that can be stacked, which allows for a variety of heights.
We created boxes with two layers. Once they were completed, filled with earth and planted out, the chickens loved it. So we had to think of a way of keeping them out! Another reason to turn to discarded innerspring mattresses. They kept the veggies safe and also act as a vertical trellis for climbing plants.
Two problems solved. And the result is an example of how upcycling can help you grow your vegies and extend the life of materials that would normally go to landfill.
